How to Calculate the Chargeable Weight of Your Shipment The physical characteristics of goods carried on Cromac Smith sea air service varies greatly: some are dense, like lead, whilst others are voluminous, like feathers. You will therefore appreciate that 1 tonne of feathers takes up far more space than 1 tonne of lead. The international freight industry bases its cost structure on weight and volume. Cromac Smith uses the same weight:volume ratio as most scheduled airlines; 1:6 or otherwise expressed as 1kilo:6000cc or 1tonne:6cbm. Some say this was chosen as it equates approximately to the ratio between the maximum weight and volume able to be loaded in the industry workhorse, the Boeing 747 freighter; 100 tonnes and 600 cbm. To establish the 'Chargeable Weight' of your shipment, enter the 'Actual Gross Weight' (in kilos) and the 'Volume' (in cubic metres) below and click 'calculate'. Please note that the minimum charge is as 100 kilos and this system will show all results below <100 kilos as 100 kilos. Cromac Smith Ltd, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, U.K. |
